Documenting the birds of Maine, and beyond…
Some of life’s simplest yet greatest pleasures are to watch, to learn about, and to know the birds around you. Growing up in the rich beauty of northern Maine, I have been lucky to do just that; suffering frozen fingers and toes watching January’s energetic Kinglets, listening for the call of March’s first Red-Winged Blackbird, battling blackflies to hear the calls of as many migrating warblers as possible each May, and craning our necks in the backyard in response to skies full of Canada Geese at harvest time. As the seasons changed around me, so too did the cast of flying characters I grew to love more and more.
Thanks to a second-hand camera setup I received in 2018, my feather-frenzy only deepened. I now had a new way to not only observe and study my favorite subjects, but also to display and share them with others that much more easily. I quickly became “The Bird Guy” with my collection that has become known as “Teal’s Birds”.
